Science Blast 2020

Our School is
The theme for "Does the Amount of Time We Spend on technology Impact On Our Daily lives"

What Is ESB Science Blast? ESB Science Blast empowers children to discover the science behind a question that interests them.
  • Why do foods with a high sugar content appeal to children more than healthy foods?
  • How is the Irish love of take-away tea and coffee negatively impacting on our environment?
  • Conas gur féidir leat carr Lego a chruthú agus a thógáil d'ubh a bheadh go tapa agus sabháilte?
  • Why do Skyscrapers not fall down or sway in the wind?
ESB Science Bast, delivered by the RDS, is a non-competitive programme for primary school classes from 3rd – 6th (ROI) and Key Stage 2 (NI) that invites children to investigate the science behind a simple question that interests and excites them.
The goal is to ignite children’s innate curiosity about the world around them and aims to promote curiosity, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking in children at primary school age to enable them to better respond to the challenges of the future.
Participating schools exhibit their work at showcase events in Dublin, Limerick and Belfast, where they receive feedback from the team of expert judges and participate in science themed workshops and shows.
The inaugural 2019 ESB Science Blast saw 496 projects submitted from schools from across Munster, Connacht, Leinster and Ulster. All participating schools got the opportunity to showcase their projects and take part in exciting science-based workshops.

How Can My School Get Involved?
If you would like to register your schools interest email scienceadmin@rds.ie or visit www.esbscienceblast.ie to submit your class question.
The 2020 ESB Science Blast Events will take place as follows:
  • Dublin, RDS Simmonscourt, 2nd to 5th March 2020.
  • Limerick, Mary Immaculate College, 19th to 21st May 2020.
  • Belfast, 3rd and 4th June 2020.

Why Is ESB Involved?ESB is leading the transition to a low carbon future powered by clean electricity.
That future will depend on having creative and innovative problem solvers.
They believe they have an important role to play in supporting young people to develop scientific literacy and critical thinking skills through programmes like ESB Science Blast that encourage curiosity and discovery, helping them not only to become creative and innovative problem solvers, but also active and engaged citizens, capable of making informed choices to tackle climate change and other global challenges
